Day 3: A Virtous Wife?

Step 3: Return to Proverbs 31
Our goal for this study is to become good housewives. In order to do that we need to become Godly women. Lucky us, God dedicated Proverbs 31 just for us! So lets dive in and take a look!
Day 3: Look at versus 10-12
10 Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.
11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.

“Who can find a virtuous wife?” Well your husband is off to a good start! He found a woman with the potential to be all that God wants her to be! Now lets take a look at that word virtuous. According to, virtuous is an adjective, first meaning “conforming to moral and ethical principles; morally excellent; upright: Lead a virtuous life.” and secondly “chaste: a virtuous young person.”
What exactly does that mean?! Was what first came across my mind when I read that definition. When you look at it a little closer it makes sense. Read it over again, conforming to moral and ethical principles. Do you do this? What are your moral and ethical principles? Do they line up with the bible or your husbands? Just something to think on. Now lets take a look at the word chaste:

1.     refraining from sexual intercourse that is regarded as contrary to morality or religion; virtuous.
2.     virgin.
3.     not engaging in sexual relations; celibate.
4.     free from obscenity; decent: chaste conversation.
5.     undefiled or stainless: chaste, white snow.
6.     pure in style; not excessively ornamented; simple.
7.     Obsolete. unmarried.

Well, we are married and most of us married couples engage in “marital acts”. So we can cross off items 1,2,3, and 7. However, if you are a single woman keep these items in mind. So lets take a look at 4,5, and 6. “Free from obscenity; decent: chaste conversations.” So we need to be free from obscenity, so we need to have pure thoughts and pure speech. Correct? That goes hand in hand with virtuous don’t you think? Number 5, “ Undefiled or stainless” we talked about becoming a new clean slate correct? Well, as of now we have confessed our sins and started anew. Therefore, you are undefiled and stainless. Last but definitely not least we’ll look at number 6, “pure in style; not excessively ornamented; simple”. Wow. Did that hit home for me. Even as I am writing this to you, it hits me deep in my heart. God wants us to be simple. Pure in our style, not excessively dressed or with excessive accessories but just plain simple. The way he made us. Remember today is a day for pondering. Not change. Pondering. All this information that God is laying out for you, allow yourself to think on it and pray on it. What does God want you to do with this newly found information?
Moving on to verse 11.

11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.

Hmmm. Well. Does my husband safely trust ME? When I first read this as a newlywed, I could easily answer this question with a big fat NO! My husband will also honestly tell you that at that point in our marriage he did not trust me. Ladies the reason I tell you these things is because we do not all come into marriage knowing what to do. I had not been given proper instruction on how to treat my husband, my family, or my household duties. I also had not sought out instruction. If only I would have looked to our instructions from God (BIBLE) I would have known much more starting out. However, I did not, but God did find a way to reach me and here I am. We all start from somewhere. None of you are reading this because you have the perfect schedule and perfect household and perfect relationship with God. We could all use a little remolding. Or sometimes even a whole new set of clay! So how can you become a woman that your husband trusts? Simple. Become a woman God trusts. Which is what you are learning to do.
12 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.

Verse 12 begins to explain how you can become a woman your husband trusts. “She does him good and not evil, all the days of her life.” So, do good to your husband. Have good thoughts about your husband. Don’t say harmful things about your husband or to your husband.
As you get farther into the days of this study you will realize the tasks get longer. Don’t worry God will equip you with the energy and drive to complete them.
-Read your daily Proverbs
-Ponder what you learned today
-No harsh words about or to your Husband
-Pray about what God has revealed to you.

The verses in Blue were ones I found interesting in the fact that they related to what we have discussed from Proverbs 31.
